My Last Days at Work as a Software Engineer in the netherlands

This video was filmed in the Hague, Netherlands, on December 4, 2019.

As a software engineer, my days often start with a stand-up meeting. For those unfamiliar, a stand-up is a quick daily meeting common in IT and Agile workflows. Each team member shares what they worked on yesterday, their plans for today, and any challenges they might need help with. It’s a short, focused way to ensure the team is aligned, and with our small team of five, it usually wraps up in about ten minutes.

This week, however, the stand-ups feel different. These are my last days at this company, and Tuesday marks my final stand-up here. It’s a mix of emotions—nostalgia for the experiences and excitement for the future.

My Workspace Setup

On a typical day, I work with two monitors. The larger one is dedicated to coding, while the smaller screen keeps me organized with emails, tickets, and quick searches. It’s a setup I’ve grown accustomed to and one that helps me stay productive.

But now, with most of my tasks completed and only a few hours left, I find myself reflecting on the journey. I’ll miss the familiar rhythm of this place—stand-ups, problem-solving, and the camaraderie of the team.

A Demo Day and New Beginnings

Tuesday brings a company-wide demo day, where teams showcase their progress and achievements. Everything goes smoothly, which feels like the perfect way to close this chapter. Though I’m wrapping up here, my mind is already on the adventures ahead.

Moving Forward: A New Chapter in Mexico City

I’m trading my current environment for something entirely new. My next destination? Mexico City! The vibrant culture, new opportunities, and the chance to learn and grow in a fresh setting are calling to me.

One of my driving reasons for this move is accessibility. As a developer, tools like Google and YouTube are essential. Having lived in environments where these were restricted, I’ve realized how vital they are for staying connected and informed. Mexico City feels like the perfect blend of opportunity and freedom.

Gratitude and Excitement

These final moments at work are bittersweet. I’m grateful for the experiences and lessons I’ve gained here, and I’m equally excited for what lies ahead. Whether it’s diving into a new culture, tackling fresh challenges, or simply refreshing my perspective, I’m ready for this next phase.

Here’s to new adventures, new code, and new stories to share. Onward! 🌎👩‍💻
