I became a full-stack web developer trainee at RestartNetwork between July – Dec 2018 (my LinkedIn profile).
Joining the Restart Network coding bootcamp was one of the most transformative experiences in my journey as a programmer.
It wasn’t just about learning to code; it was about stepping into a supportive community, growing alongside fellow learners, and immersing myself in the tech world in ways I had never imagined. Looking back, the memories from those months still make me smile.
The classroom was our hub—a space filled with laptops, whiteboards, and the constant buzz of ideas being exchanged. Each day was an adventure as we tackled coding challenges, debugged errors, and celebrated small victories. One of the most impactful aspects of the bootcamp was working in pairs or small groups. Being paired with other programmers meant not only learning from each other’s strengths but also building the critical teamwork skills that are so essential in the tech industry.
From mastering the basics of programming to diving into complex topics, the learning process was intense but incredibly rewarding. The instructors and mentors were always there to guide us, ensuring we didn’t just memorize code but truly understood the logic behind it.
One of the highlights of the bootcamp was our visits to tech companies in Amsterdam, including the headquarters of Booking.com. Walking into their office felt like stepping into the future of work. We had the chance to see firsthand how their teams operate, particularly their agile working system.
The hands-on training sessions were incredibly valuable. We participated in workshops, observed their processes, and even tried out some of their techniques. Seeing how agile principles were applied in a real-world setting gave me a whole new perspective on collaboration and project management.
Restart Network wasn’t all about code. We bonded as a group through shared experiences, including some much-needed fun outside the classroom.
I still remember the day we went bowling together—laughter echoing as strikes and gutter balls added to the camaraderie.
These moments of relaxation were just as important as the hours spent learning. They reminded us that while we were working toward our professional goals, it was also about building lasting connections with people who shared our passion for technology.
Another unique aspect of Restart Network was its podcast series. The podcast gave participants, instructors, and guest speakers a platform to share stories, insights, and tips about coding, career development, and navigating the tech world. It was inspiring to hear about different journeys and perspectives, reinforcing the sense of community that the bootcamp fostered.
Restart Network was more than just a bootcamp—it was a stepping stone that opened doors to opportunities, friendships, and personal growth. It showed me the power of collaboration, the importance of hands-on learning, and the value of taking time to enjoy the process.
If you’re considering joining a coding bootcamp, I wholeheartedly recommend finding one with a strong sense of community like Restart Network. It’s not just about the skills you learn but also about the experiences and relationships that shape you along the way.
